Beloved San Francisco Queer Nightclub Robbed at Gunpoint, GoFundMe Launched to Help With Damages and Stolen Goods

As of publishing, the GoFundMe campaign launched to help with necessary repairs and clean up of the venue, as well as replace goods robbed from the then-present cleaning crew, has received over 150 individual donations.

Not even three weeks after Pride Month ended, SF’s Oasis NightClub, a staple in the city’s queer community and lauded as both a safe space and preeminent entertainment venue, was robbed at gunpoint early Thursday morning, according to an Instagram post.

“Early Thursday morning, 4 [gunmen broke] into and robbed Oasis,” reads the post’s caption — a picture of the expansive mural outside the club, “Showtime,” serving as principal media, symbolizing both queer expressionism and community as an updated Pride Flag ungulates in the background.

According to the post, the four gunmen destroyed several doors and “trashed the place.”

What was even more unsettling? The robbers held the venue’s cleaning crew at gunpoint; thankfully everyone involved was physically unharmed, but the physiological toll is presumably immense.

Moreover: The fucking assholes *stole some of the crews’ wallets and phones, as well as other belongings.*

To replace those stolen items, as well as repair and tidy up the space, a GoFundMe campaign was published earlier this morning, July 19th, and has already garnered hyperlocal virality.

“Please donate if you can; we, as always, are beyond grateful for the support from our community,” reads the post co-authored by D’Arcy Drollinger, the owner and artistic director of OASIS. “While we are discouraged by the crime that took place, we are resilient and dedicated to being a safe and welcoming space for everyone. We appreciate your support of us and our dedicated, hard-working cleaning crew.”

Less than two hours after launching, the donation drive, aptly named “Help Oasis Bounce Back after Robbery,” raised nearly $7K of its $10K goal.

“Take care of yourselves and each other!”

That we will … that we will.
