Anti-Tesla Flyering Covers One of SF’s Wealthiest Neighborhoods

ICYMI: Owning a Tesla is … like, so not in for the 248th season of the United States of America.

Tesla stocks continue to plummet by the day. Since it’s contentious, Nazi-aligning CEO Elon Musk endoresed now-president Trump in July of last year, shares of his automotive company — the bread-and-butter of his nearly $470 billion networh — have seen a pricing rollercaost, hiting an all time high of $479 on December 17th, to now sitting over $200 less a share as of publishing.

The past two months has seen Tesla’s myriad in controversy; it hit a deafenting, unsettling peak after Musk’s Nazi salute given on January 20th; Musk’s controversial connection with DOGE has only sunk Tesla’s public image further; today, March 8th, Tesla stocks are now worth 25% less than they were just a month ago. (To put that figure into perspective, the Great Recession of 2008 saw the GDP of the United States sink 4.3% — enough to cause widespread financial ruin that’s still evident in the country, particularly in regards to housing stock.)

Celebrities have ridden their Teslas, donating the sales to agencies and organizations under threat by Trump; Grammy-winning artist Sheryl Crow famously sold her Tesla Model 3 in February and gave the money she received from that sale to NPR. The Tesla hate is so strong, some owners have gone as far as replacing their car’s badges with those from different car makers.

Now, the anti-Tesla movement has reached one of San Francisco’s wealthiest neighborhoods in an unignorable way.

Flyers attached to Teslas around Pacific Heights implored owners to get rid of their car  — “SWASTICAR” — amid Musk’s growing contentious, racist, oligarchian behaviour. Models from the company’s 3 series, Y series, and X series were seen with these papers attached to them, rationing with owners not to be a “carplicit.”  One user on Threads, coconutricebear, also noticed the papering Friday, March 7th — “we’re happy to see it,” they had.

Another flyer attached to a nearby post shows three Cybertrucks on a highway moments from colliding into a passing pedestrian.

Alas, the financial toll of abruptly selling their Tesla car (or cars) was underscored in the comment section of that post. It’s not surprising that Tesla car resale values have plummeted in tandem with the company’s stock pricing; some models, like the company’s higher-end Model S vehicles, have lost nearly 30% of their values in a year, alone. Many owners wished they could sell, but noted that losing thousands, or even tens of thousands, of dollars on the vehicles they own could cause unnecessary hardship.

The more common sentiment shared in that comment section, as well as the greater internet, is that current Tesla owners who are detested by Musk’s actions might love their cars right now, but have no desire to purchase a vehicle made by the company ever again. And when their cars are paid off or the opportunity comes to sell them without too much of a loss, they’ll happily do so without blinking an eye.

Karma is unavoidable. Musk is deplorable. Cybertrucks are ugly. These are just laws of the world.  We’re in full support of any signage that reminds us about these ubiquitous facts.
