SF’s beloved “Doloresaurus” was photographed and filmed in downtown Palo Alto last month, delighting children and adults alike.
The last non-avian dinosaur went extinct about 66 million years ago in the weeks, months, and years after the Chicxulub meteor impact. But for those who frequent San Francisco’s Mission Dolores Park on a regular basis, the odds of spotting glowing theropod-like creatures stomping around the area are quite high at night.
Trevor Mead, a data privacy lawyer by day, frequently dons his 6’ 7” bioluminescent-like costume before leaving his apartment at 20th and Dolores’s streets to enchant the masses. For Mead, it’s this Jurassic cosplaying that brings levity to his day.
“This is how I deal with my day, with my life choices that led me to become a lawyer,” he told Mission Local earlier this year, noting that kids have a mixed bag of emotions when meeting him.
“Kids above a certain height, it was their favorite thing ever. Below a certain height, they were terrified of it. Just terrified,” Mead stated. But fret not … because inside the costume’s network of wires and LEDs is a two-speaker system controlled by a smartphone capable of emitting comforting sounds to quell fears; Mead often plays Peter Griffin singing the “Jurassic Park” theme song to win over small humans who feel indifferent about his regalia.
We even feature Mead in a since-viral piece about him walking past an early Cybertruck when the controversial vehicle first came out. But those out and about in Silicon Valley were recently awestruck when Mead was filmed walking around downtown Palo Alto in his dinnerhouse costume.
“Nothing to see here, just a normal evening in Palo Alto,” reads a post published on Threads by [at]jennaezarik. The short video shows Mead, in all his radiant blue glimmer, walking on the sidewalk, shouldering small businesses and trailed by curious passersby holding up their smartphones to take a picture or video (or both).
The post has received thousands of likes and shares as of publishing, and similar posts centered around Mead’s stroll in the tech center of the world.
While San Franciscans have aptly called Mead’s dinosaur costume SF’s “Doloresaurus,” some have suggested it be called the “Palo Altosaur” when he travels around Palo Alto. We can’t help but stand both excellent examples of word-play.
