Initially reported by Bay Area News Group, the crash occurred around 1:15 pm near the intersection of 68th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard in Oakland. 11 people were injured and taken to nearby hospitals, making the bus crash the most injurious of its kind in recent memory.
Police reports indicate the AC Transit bus was traveling through the intersection when it collided with an SUV, sending the massive vehicle through All About Cars Auto and Body Repair at 6821 Foothill Boulevard.
Thankfully, no one was struck by the careening public transit vehicle when it went through the shop; nine people aboard the bus were injured, and two individuals inside the SUV were also hurt, though none suffered life-threatening injuries.
No further details about the crash — what speeds each vehicle was going, who was at fault, etc. — have been released, but a structural engineer will assess damage done to the auto repair shop building and recommend needed fixes.
This 11-injured-persons bus crash comes weeks after a now-viral video of a San Francisco Muni operator allegedly falling asleep at the helm, throwing around a cabin filled with passengers and sending them all into a panic as the operator lost control of the light rail.
