Tickets for the beloved (and free) San Francisco music festival are expected to sell out quickly when they go live for each act.
Now in its 87th year, Stern Grove Music Festival — which, fun fact, is the oldest non-profit music festival series in the entire country — is set to be a staple on your calendars this summer, courtesy of a stellar lineup.
Announced at a lively party at Local Edition on May 10th, the admission-free concert series (for general seating, sans designated picnic areas, and other more embellished arrangments) was met with a fit of joy and levity. Matthew Goldman — whose family has run the free concerts at San Francisco’s Stern Grove for five generations now — waxed that the festival’s innate “funk” has remained a staple memory ever since he experienced his first festival — “[myself and other concert goers] suddenly in the middle of a big funk party! How did that happen? I love my job!”
48hills was spot-on in showing how this year’s lineup of dazzling talent truly does span the game of musical tastes, creating a series of concerts organized around the invaluable connection between musicians and their listeners as opposed to focusing on any one specific genre. (The pop-minded among us will take splendid delight in seeing that San Francisco’s 87th annual Stern Grove Festival will kick off with the likes of Tegan and Sara; indie-R&B tour de force King Isis will open for the duo.
Fittingly, Chaka Khan is set to wrap up the festival on August 25th — and may we all aspire to have this much vitality and as few fucks to give in our 70s.

The remaining tickets, which number in the thousands, for each show, are released randomly in the weeks and days leading up to the show date.
