Attendees at the 2025 Trans March in San Francisco had some choice words for the city’s current mayor after a slew of criticisms have fallen on home as of late regarding queer
San Francisco Mayor Lurie isn’t exactly making friends or allies with the city’s queer communites, particualy withing transgender circles. Recent City budget unveilings show SF is decreasing the amount of money toward programs for gender-affirming care and other resources meant to support queer and trans people.

San Francisco, too, has yet to fly the transgender flag in June; it was omitted from the official Pride flag raising ceremony at City Hall earlier this week; Lurie has also yet to comment on the recent ICE abduction (and subsequent detention) of a local drag queen after competing in a San Francisco pageant.
Suffice it to say that Lurie’s standing with local queer groups is less than ideal. And that was made abundantly clear when the San Francisco Mayor was booed right out of the Transgender March and the following rally held at Dolores Park on Friday, June 27th.
“You’re not welcomed here,” an event participant crowned with a metallic headpiece jutting trangender flag told Lurie, who was canvasing the event to speak with people (mind you, he was flanked by bodyguards while doing so), as seen in a video uploaded to X. With his head bowed down, Lurie appears defeated and, per comments left on the video, left the event after just five minutes.
The video shows Lurie striking up conversation with an alleged cisgendered male, but the same level of discussion isn’t filmed with others who identify in the trans community. An Instagram story uploaded to Lurie’s account shows him taking a selfie with two cisgender individuals at this year’s Trans March — sans the presence of his bodyguards — and another picture of him posing with on-site staff for The LGBT Asylum Project at their participating booth.
Eventually, Lurie leaves the event, bombarded by yelled criticisms, and is seen openly embracing gay District 8 Supervisor Rafael Mandelman before the video ends.
In the city largely considered the birthplace of the modern Transgender Rights Movement, to have a sitting mayor act so unsupportive of SF’s trans communities is a certain malice that cannot exist without notice or action.
