ICYMI: Lineup for SF’s Outside Lands 2024 Is All About Up-and-Coming Artists

We simply can’t wait to belt our hearts out to Chappel Ronan’s “Good Luck, Babe” while two or three overpriced drinks in.

The NorCal alternative to SoCal’s Coachella officially announced its 2024 lineup toward the tail end of April, quelling many what-ifs and rumors and pre-meditated anxiety. The three-day festival, which is now in its 16th year, will again take place inside Golden Gate Park from August 9th to 11th. This year’s act follows the rather jamp-packed Outside Lands 2023 that saw the likes of Lana Del Rey (who deserved the mainstage last year, tbh), Meegan The Station, the Foofighers, and (many, many) more laudable acts descent onto the Polo Field at SF’s foremost greenspace.

The announcement included headlining acts like rapper Tyler, the Creator, Postmalon (again), and, in a similar fit to 2023’s alt-rock pic, the Killers — the quartet famous four penning early aught bangers like “Mr. Brighstide.” Oh… and the literal, actual, fully-formed Grace Jones will be performing in the SoMa area, as well; what a time to be alive, truly.

The crowd, too, will likely be akin to last year: a mix of despondent youths, like of whom are attending on their parent’s dollar, and fledged adults keen on sponging up nostalgia while three or seven beers in.

Undoubtedly, the attendance at Outside Lands 2024 will match, if not eclipse, last year’s when some 225,000 festival goers flocked to the live music happening, drawn. But this year’s roster of up-and-coming, ostensibly lesser-known acts is simply *chef’s kiss.* In fact, said aforenoted culinary smooch is the best we’ve seen (felt?) in recent years.

The Grammy-sweeping force that is Sacramento’s own Victoria Monet, whose most recent contemporary R&B LP, “Jaguar II” garnered universal praise for its genre-bending sonic scape, joins the likes of other acts… like Mean Girls: The Musical start and soundtrack staple Renne Rape. British alt-band The Last Dinner Party is expected to grow their already-expanding stateside fanbase.

Perhaps the most obscure (for now) acts we’re most excited to is none other than breakthrough Coachella star Chappel Ronan (whose glimmering, striped-away set reminded those old enough of Lady Gaga’s mid-2000s rise before breaking into a household name). With a lauded Tiny Desk concert also under her belt, the 26-year-old songbird behind “Good Luck, Babe” will make her debut at OSL this year.

And yes: You will find us screaming into an expected fog-filled sky “With your head in your hands, you’re nothing more than his wife/ And when you think about me, all of those years ago / You’re standing face to face with ‘I told you so.’”
